To Save A Life Christian Movie used for Teen Outreach

Posted by – April 26, 2011

From: http://moviereach.com/2011/04/to-save-a-life-christian-outreach-movie/

“One of the many things I love about the movie To Save A Life is how it portrays in a very real [non-cheesy] way the different pressures teenagers face. It opens doors for students to talk with trusted leaders on where they see themselves in the story.” – Doug Fields, Founder: Simply Youth Ministry & Author: Purpose Driven Youth Ministry

“This generation of teenagers wants to make a difference, but they are bogged down by the most pervasive and life-threatening influences of any previous generation. The To Save A Life movie is a wake-up call for all teenagers to the fact that they are on this earth to express the love of God on their campus, in their family and in their communities.” – Ron Luce, President Teen Mania

Let Jesus Be In Charge of Your Church Tech Team

Posted by – April 15, 2011

From: http://www.churchtecharts.org/home/2011/4/6/jesus-is-a-geek.html

I was having lunch with my friend and mentor Roy the other day. As we enjoyed some really good BBQ beef brisket (all mentoring should take place over BBQ beef brisket), we got to talking about how different most techs are from the “general population.” I’ve been thinking about this for some time, actually. When I took a real Meyers-Briggs evaluation some years ago, I learned that approximately 1% of population has my personality profile (INTP). In fact, NT’s make up a mere 4% of the population. I have a hypothesis that most church techs (and probably most techs) are one of the four variations of an NT. And that makes us pretty unique.

Think about that for a minute; if you are a variation of an NT, that means your personality profile is different from 99% of the population. That has all sorts of interesting implications. For one, we tend to treat people the same way we expect to be treated. Now I’m not talking about being nice or courteous, I mean we interact with others the way we expect people to interact with us. And if we’re different from 99% of the population, consider how that plays out: Let’s say your pastor comes to you on Friday and wants a video for the weekend. He sees no problem with that request, but you might react differently. Or if a musician asks for a little more “me” in the monitor, you might be tempted to explain why he can’t have that instead of simply accommodating the request. I’m sure I don’t need to elaborate any more on our differences.

Ministry Leaders Have Access to Helpful Apps on iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad

Posted by – April 13, 2011

Apple has brought a wave of new technology options to the market through the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad.  The personal possibilities for apps is endless, but the ministry side of apps is pretty good too. Here’s some great apps for worship leaders and other ministry leaders too.

From: http://www.sharefaithblog.com/2010/05/top-5-apps-worship-leader/

Worship leaders are going hi-tech. If you are a worship leader, it’s not necessary to have an iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad. But if you do, here are a few app suggestions to take it to the next level.

Song Suggest ($ 2.99)

Every wished that you could think of a great song on the go, but you’re totally stuck? Song Suggest equips you with a handheld tool for selecting the right song from a collection of 600 well-known songs. You can search by song themes, key, and tempo. Build a binder of your favorite songs to quickly pull up at the right time. This is by far the most popular and widely used app for worship leaders.

ProPresenter Remote ($ 4.99)

If you use ProPresenter for your worship, you’ve got an app to control it all. While it doesn’t allow you to edit the slides, you can easily control them from the convenience of your iPhone. Browse presentations, control slides, pause song-sequence, and even use the “shake” movement of the phone to control slides. This is a powerful app exclusively for worship with ProPresenter.

Worship Music ($ 0.99)

You’ve never bought such an incredible songbook for so little money. This songbook has all the popular worship songs with both the lyrics and the matching chords. Need to search for a song, but forgot the title? Just tap in any of the lyrics you remember, and the song will come up. Transpose songs with a tap, or even check out the YouTube video of the song to remind you of how the song goes. You can search for songs by category (including children’s songs, easy, songs, etc.).

Churches Charities are becoming overshadowed by the sexual abuse crisis

Posted by – April 13, 2011

From: http://mumbailaity.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/paedophile-priests-overshadowing-churchs-good-works-%E2%80%93-senior-catholic/

One of the most senior Roman Catholics in England and Wales has said the sexual abuse crisis is overshadowing the positive social contribution of the church’s charities.

At a conference in central London, the archbishop of Southwark said the paedophile priest scandal of recent years, coupled with church teaching on issues such as abortion and homosexuality, had not fostered good impressions.

The Most Rev Peter Smith said: “Some people’s perception of the church is very negative, [that] it’s just there to say no.

“I don’t think there is an awareness of the positive social engagement. We don’t go around blowing our trumpet. We’ve been modest and humble.”

A new vision of youth ministry

Posted by – April 12, 2011

From: http://www.rethinkingyouthministry.com/2011/04/youth-ministry-as-family-ministry-be_12.html

A NEW VISION OF FAMILY

Scholar John Dominic Crossan has observed that Jesus is often depicted as attacking what many today might term “family values.” Though there are many biblical texts to which we could turn, two are particularly instructive for understanding Jesus‘ vision of “family“ in the realm of God: Mark 3:31-35 and Matthew 10:34-38.
In the passage from Mark, the reader is presented with a concept of family that does away with biological ties. Here Jesus sees those who follow him to be a new kind of family, one that even takes the place of blood ties:

Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”

Christians Arrested in Park in China For Meeting

Posted by – April 12, 2011

From: http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2011/April/Beijing-Police-Halt-Unapproved-Church-Service/

Chinese authorities have arrested nearly 200 members of one of the largest unregistered churches in the country, saying they attended an unapproved prayer service.

As many as 169 congregants of Beijing’s Shouwang Church were taken into custody Sunday, possibly the biggest crackdown on China’s Christians in years.

Undercover footage showed churchgoers attempting to hold service in a public plaza as police surrounded them.

The church was evicted last week from their usual meeting place after Chinese authorities pressured the building’s owner to force the church out. The congregation then decided to hold prayer on public property, but they were met by police.

Is Lent an Empty Religious Act or Spiritual Season?

Posted by – April 12, 2011

From: http://biblestudyforyou.com/studies/lent-empty-religion-or-spiritual-season/

I believe the real reason for this season is our benefit as both individual believers and as a church body: as we intentionally observe the events of the life of Christ, we align ourselves with God’s unfolding story of redemption. Bobby Gross, author of Living the Christian Year (IVP Books, 2009), says it best, “But how does inhabiting the Story of God in liturgical time actually shape our lives? Here is the simple answer: by remembering and anticipating.”

Several days before he was crucified, Christ requested His disciples at the last supper to remember Him by taking the bread and wine (Luke 22:19), and to anticipate the future when we will eat and drink with Him face to face (Matt. 26:29). The forty-day period in Lent is intended to reflect the forty days Christ spent fasting in the desert, where He was tempted by Satan, before His crucifixion. Lent is a somber occasion, then, for us, for prayer, fasting, self-examination, and repentance. It is a time to re-focus on our need for salvation and Christ’s sacrifice for us, so that on Easter morning we can fully celebrate that “He is risen indeed!”

Catholic Church sexual abuse scandals drop but still continue

From: http://www.dfwcatholic.org/drop-in-number-of-victims-of-clergy-sexual-abuse-continues-application-of-charter-needs-clarification12885/.html

WASHINGTON (MetroCatholic)—Reports of current instances of sexual abuse of minors continues to decrease, with seven credible allegations against seven priests reported in 2010, according to the 2010 Survey of Allegations and Costs done by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, CARA. At the same time diocesan audits are uncovering weaknesses in audit compliance and finding reports of boundary violations short of abuse, such as inappropriate hugging.

A credible allegation is one which has a semblance of truth to it following an initial examination of the facts and circumstances surrounding the allegation.

Being a leader can be frusterating at times but worth it

Leadership is tough. Real Leaders know that and don’t shrink back from the job.  Whether it’s in business (been there), coaching (still there) or teaching (always there), when you’re the leader everyone has an opinion about how you’re doing your job.  Whenever someone criticizes your leadership you know that at the very least you’re doing something.  The only leader that never gets criticized is the one who’s doing nothing.  Make a change, try something new, or stop doing something and somebody is going to criticize your decision.  Just get used to it.

So if you’re going to be the leader here are some things you’re going to need to stay in the game:

Unique people attracted to youth ministry

But don’t get me wrong, I’m not having a laugh at someone else’s expense…it never takes me long to realise that we’re all a bit whack in our own unique way. Gods heart toward Christian Single Young Adults

Posted by – April 12, 2011

being single is really hard, especially when all your friends are getting married/engaged, having babies, and have families. Remember, God has a plan and just the right person for you.

From: http://sierranichole.com/2011/01/11/gods-desire-for-single-young-adults/

* Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone.
* To have a deep soul relationship with another.
* To be loved thoroughly, and exclusively.
* But GOD, to the Christian says, “No, not until you are satisfied, fulfilled and content with being loved by ME alone!
* With giving yourself totally unreservedly to ME!
* To having an intensely personal and unique relationship with ME alone, discovering that only in ME is your satisfaction to be found, then will you be capable of the perfect human relationship that I have planned for you.
* You will never be united with another until you are united with ME. Exclusive of anyone or anything else, exclusive of any other desires or longings.
* I want you to stop planning, stop wishing, and allow ME to give you the most thrilling plan existing. One that you cannot imagine!
* I want you to have the best. Please allow ME to bring it to you.
* Just keep watching ME, expecting the greatest things.
* Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I AM.
* Keep listening and learning the things I tell you.
* You just wait. That’s all!
* Don’t be anxious, don’t worry.
* Don’t look around at the things others have gotten or want. You just keep looking off and away up to ME, or you’ll miss what I want to show you.
* And then, when you’re ready, I’ll surprise you with a love far more wonderful than any you would dream of. You see, until you are ready and until the one I have for you is ready, ( I am working even this moment to have both of you ready at the same time.)
* Until you are both satisfied exclusively with ME and the life I have prepared for you, you won’t be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with ME, and is thus perfect love.

Bible Study for Youth on Committment

Posted by – April 11, 2011

From: http://www.christianet.com/biblestudy/youthbiblestudiesoncommitment.htm
Youth Bible studies on commitment give young people a fresh look at what God’s word says about being responsible and living a life devoted to him. Many of us will confess that we have tried the life of putting self first and not giving much time to thoughts about God. Let us give the life of commitment to God an opportunity so that we may compare the differences. Putting priorities in order usually relieves stress and chaos in life. God brings a peace and contentment that cannot be experienced any other way. Most people are bombarded, day in and day out, with overwhelming stresses and chaotic lifestyles. When they learn to put God first in their lives, they can experience a new perspective. As they learn to trust him, they can come to the understanding that He is in control and He is working out all those stressful occurrences for good. Youth Bible studies on commitment include important issues such as choosing the right friends and making choices everyday concerning faithfulness. The people we choose to spend time with are constantly influencing us. Youth Bible studies on friends offers wisdom as to why choices we make concerning friends are so important.

iPhone Helps Improve Prayer Life

Posted by – April 11, 2011

Its hard to remember to sit down and take time to pray everyday, and even when you remember to pray, its hard to remember who and what to pray for. Why not use your mobile phone to help improve your prayer life?

From: http://www.sydneyanglicans.net/ministry/modernministry/how_the_iphone_helped_my_prayer_life/

A useful system would remind me of things I should regularly pray for daily, weekly and monthly. It should also have the scope to have other daily prayer points that will come and go on a needs basis.

When I finally jumped on board the iOS train, I reviewed a number of apps that could possibly help me achieve this kind of organisation on my smartphone.

My journey ended when I downloaded PrayerPartner by Laridian.

This simple app enables me to categorise prayer points so that I either pray them every day, on a particular day of the week, or a particular day of the month. This means that I can now be prompted to pray for my wife every day, my kids on specific days of the week, and a whole lot of other people and things at least once a month.

It also allows me to assign a contact in my iPhone to a particular prayer point, so that I can then hit a button and automatically have an SMS ready to type to that person, to encourage them that I’ve prayed for them.

The Lion of Judah, not your average “Christian Kids Movie”

Christian Movie, Christian Film, Kids Movie, Kids Film, Christian Animated Movie, Lion of Judah

From http://freedomist.com/2011/03/21/animated-christian-movie-lion-of-judah-reveals-cross-to-kids/

Visit the official Lion of Judah The Movie site- http://lionofjudahthemovie.com

This Christian movie is centered around a group of animals that live in the stable where Jesus was born.  These animals were present when Jesus was born and meet Him (the King) and the movie is set 33 years later around the time when Jesus will die on the Cross.

I went into this movie not expecting much, not even expecting to enjoy it. I’ve seen other “Christian” kids movies and they normally bore me but the Lion of Judah is my exception. This movie is PACKED with lessons on respect, trust, honor and truth.  However, the main point is to teach children about Christ’s love for them and His death on the cross. Children and parents alike will walk away from this movie having learned something.

After the first official dialogue session with non-believers in Paris, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi and the Pontifical Council for Culture plan to approach future meetings with a greater emphasis on reaching out to young people.

The forum is called the “Courtyard of the Gentiles,” and it seeks to engage adults and youth alike in contemplating spirituality through discussion on subjects like culture, philosophy and politics. It creates a “courtyard” like that outside the temple in ancient Jerusalem, which was reserved for debates between Jews and non-Jews.

Facebook Murdered the Church!

Posted by – April 11, 2011

From: http://www.virtueonline.org/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=14224

There has been a great deal of hand wringing in the Christian community about the onset of Web 2.0 relationality (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, blogs, MMOGs. See <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game> ). The concern you often hear is that “virtual” relationships are no replacement for “authentic” relationships.

No doubt this is true. But I’ve done some research in this area and here’s my general conclusion: Facebook friends tend to be our actual friends. No doubt, the vast majority of the people in a friend list on Facebook are strangers, acquaintances, or old school friends you haven’t seen in years. But no user of Facebook is confused enough to think that she is “in relationship” with any of these people. These are just the penumbra around the core of our Facebook interactions, connecting with people we actually know and are friends with.

Christian Review: 9 Things they didnt teach me about Childrens Ministry

Posted by – April 11, 2011

From: http://ministry-to-children.com/ryan-frank-book/

9 Things They Didn’t teach Me in College about Children’s Ministry promises “practical advice, inspiring stories, and interesting interviews with others involved in children’s ministry.”

This pocket-sized composition book look-alike is a cute little package, but inside, it’s spot on and sobering. Author, Ryan Frank, strikes a chord with statistics like “the probability of five-to-twelve-year-old children accepting Christ as Savior is 32 percent. That number drops to 4 percent between the ages of thirteen and eighteen.” He then hits it out of the park with,

“The million dollar question in children’s ministry leadership is not about a program, model, or leadership style. It’s this: are kids being changed to become like Jesus?”

Sunday School is not a Substitute for Parents to teach their kids

Posted by – April 10, 2011

From: http://islamicinsights.com/news/community-affairs/sunday-school-supplement-not-substitute.html
Sunday School is an essential part of our communities’ efforts in instilling basic fundamental Islamic values and beliefs in our children. However it is, unfortunately, what many parents believe will teach their children all that they need to know about their religion, in those few hours just once a week. It appears to be seen as the one institute that will “save” our children by teaching them basic foundational practices, and making them experts at it at the same time.

” Tens of thousands died in the fighting, and many more thousands fled in search of peace. Now, hundreds of thousands survive in refugee camps not far from the places they once called home.

After 26 years of bitter civil war in Sri Lanka, this island nation’s militarized minority, the Tamil Tigers, laid down their weapons. This transition has opened the door for the Good News to come into areas once cut-off from the world.

“Conditions in Sri Lanka are difficult right now ” closed roads, unsanitary living conditions and lack of resources,” said Doug Harstine, Faith Comes By Hearing regional manager.

A look at Church Leadership

Posted by – April 7, 2011

From: http://centerchurch.wordpress.com/2011/04/01/lets-talk-about-church-leadership/
Hey, I am writing briefly here to introduce Sunday’s subject matter for the sermon at church.  This week, I will take a break from the Luke narrative to address an important and timely topic, church governance. Remember that we are a new church, one that started from scratch; nothing was inherited, everything must be created.   Thus on the path to becoming a well established church that is grounded to serve its members and the community well, there are several very important milestones to accomplish.  One of those is leadership development.  As a new church is established, it must take  scriptural measures to develop its leadership structure, or governance.  Who is responsible and for what?  How will the church be led?  How will decisions be made?  What accountability is in place?  These kinds of questions must be answered.  It is clear, that as the church grows larger, the leadership cannot revolve around any one person but the church must raise up more and more leaders who work together as a team.  The biblical solution for the leadership needs of the new and growing church is something called ‘eldership.’

Ministry focuses on Outreach to inmates and military kids

Posted by – April 7, 2011

From: http://www.goddiscussion.com/44908/ministry-targets-children-of-inmates-children-of-military-personnel/

CEF believes that it is critical to get children between the ages of 5-8 to believe in Jesus Christ (see the promotional video below) so that they will be saved.

CEF has found that the best way to find the approximately seven million children who have a parent either in prison or under federal or state supervision is through the parents. Each year, Mrs. Debbie Walsh, Director of Prison Ministry for Child Evangelism Fellowship, visits an average of 40 prisons around the country where she talks to prisoners during worship services or in their living areas. She supplies the inmates with a booklet entitled “What Went Wrong?” This brief booklet makes the case that a prisoner does not start off with the intention of going to prison. Something goes wrong. Walsh explains, “Unless one is unfairly imprisoned, that something is the sin we all must face.”

Reading Through the Bible in One Year

Posted by – April 6, 2011

From: http://livinggodsdream.com/bible/day-95-read-the-bible-in-a-year/

read the bible in a year: day 95

Matthew 26:47-75

47 And while he was still talking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a band armed with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and those in authority over the people. 48 Now the false one had given them a sign saying, The one to whom I give a kiss, that is he: take him. 49 And straight away he came to Jesus and said, Master! and gave him a kiss. 50 And Jesus said to him, Friend, do that for which you have come. Then they came and put hands on Jesus, and took him. 51 And one of those who were with Jesus put out his hand, and took out his sword and gave the servant of the high priest a blow, cutting off his ear. 52 Then says Jesus to him, Put up your sword again into its place: for all those who take the sword will come to death by the sword. 53 Does it not seem possible to you that if I make request to my Father he will even now send me an army of angels? 54 But how then would the Writings come true, which say that so it has to be? 55 In that hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out as against a thief with swords and sticks to take me? I was teaching every day in the Temple and you took me not.

From: http://lifestyle.ezinemark.com/the-christian-community-takes-to-the-web-7d2de709d366.html

The internet is becoming a more common avenue to connect people across the globe who share the same faith. The power of collective prayer can be realized now more than ever with the use of online prayer groups. It is possible to request prayers from people around the world during your times of need, as well as to answer other people’s prayer requests and be a part of a global faith movement. After decades of churches falling behind the technological age, with most churches lacking even a basic website, there is now an influx of followers looking to the web for faith-based questions, like-minded communities, and information on local events. Promoting a Christian lifestyle has never been easier with the development of an online Christian community complete with free Christian music, videos, and chatting.
